Brad Mason (pictured) won a tackle box and bragging rights as a palomar knot-tier extraordinaire in a knot tying competition among members of the Fishing Club Wednesday at Greene County Middle School.
The objective of the competition was to demonstrate how to tie a palomar knot properly and quickly. The palomar knot is a simple but very strong and effective knot for tying a line, a fly, or a tippet to a hook. It’s regarded as one of the most reliable fishing knots and can even be tied in the dark with a little practice.
The Fishing Club is just one of many special interest clubs at the school. They provide students a chance to explore skills, activities or topics they’re interested in, and to get to know other students who share their interests. Each club is sponsored by a teacher. Spencer Bauer is one of the teacher/sponsors of the Fishing Club.
